Blog #9

What: This week in class we learned about tool of choice. I choose to do my tool of choice on a news article and a flyer.

Now What: Now that I know how easy it is to find a layout for news article I will use them more often. In the classroom there is always new things going on and it is important for the parent and children to be involved and know what is going on. This will be useful for me because it will be fast, get the job done and nice for the parents because they will know what is going on and be able to help their child.

So what: It is important to know how to find a layout, write an article and a newsarticle because these are things that are used all the time in the classroom. I loved that the layouts were so easy to find online, and they were free. It made the process very nice for me, the article looked good and was easy and fun to make!

Video Reflection: I really enjoyed this video. It reminded me of my childhood. I think this video would be great in the classroom because it gets the point across really well and it is fun. It was colorful and had a catchy song, I remember as a child memorising things through song and to this day many songs are still stuck with me! It is a great way for learing!

Blog #8 (Video)

What: This week we were challenged to download an educational video using zamzar.

So what: I think it is important for teachers to know how to download videos and transform them into new files. With Zamzar I was allowed to transform my video onto MP3, ipod, ihome, and so many more options. It was nice because I not only could download it as a video but just as a voice recording. I won't lie I was very confused on how to find the URL of the transformed video, mine didn't have a URL so I tried downloading it in other forms and I still had no luck. But getting videos on the computer is great in the classroom, the children will be able to see/hear the information that I as a teacher intend for them to hear, I can edit if I want it to only be a podcast or I can take out the Internets site background by downloading it as a normal vidcast.

Now What: Now that I am learning more about videos and how to use them in the classroom I feel I can quickly get the information needed to teach a lesson and find different ways of showing it and teaching it to the children. Also I will be able to help the children to learn more about technology and help them learn how to access the video from home by only giving (or emailing) them the URL, this program is fast and efficient and seems to get the job done well!

Video Reflection: In the world today technology is always changing and improving, it seems to me that there is always something new and improved out. I think this video shows the expectations from technology in the future. It shows how much kids these days use technology and how times are changing. I think that in the future there will be lots of new advances in technology that possibly the generation today will be unfamiliar with. These kids are probably right about new technology such as, having a computer and cell phone in one, having finger print and identity on almost all technology, and so much more. Who knows what the future holds but I am sure that there will be lots more advances soon to come. I just hope that this electronics will not pull away from education. Technology can be a major distraction, it can also be easy access for cheating. There are endless possibilities on the Internet and children can get into trouble. Children need to be informed about things coming out and I feel they need to be monitored and only used at appropriate times. It would be a shame for something such as technology to take away the creative minds that kids naturally have, also the creative mind they are blessed with is a lot of what teaches them in life.

What: This week in class we learned about vidcast, podcast, and stimulator's. We learned how to make our own and how to put them on the computer for use in our classrooms.

So What: Vidcast and Podcast are important in the classroom because they can serve great educational value. A lot of children learn visually, and a lot of children learn by doing hands on. With vidcast and podcast children can see educational films and hear educational songs, also as a teacher I can challenge them to make their own. Which is really fun for the children and they would be able to learn through experience. This will help the children stay up with some of the technology advancements and learning the core curriculum also.

Now What: Now that I know more about vidcast and podcast I think I will use it in my classroom, kids love visual aids and if I got the children involved in the video they would love it and also be learning in the process. There are games for kids that record their voice, to them it is a fun game. If I add educational requirements to their game they will not only be learning but having a great time! Stimulator's are also fun in the classroom, I remember playing games on the Internet as a child that involved stimulator's and they were tons of fun. The stimulator that Doc. Water showed in class served great educational value, and the children would love doing something like that on the computer. They could explore on their own, choosing what they want to explore and going at their own speed. This would be great for them because they could take their time and focus on their slower areas and speed through what they know, each child getting what they need.

Video Reflection: I liked this video, it shows the reasons why children should blog. I agree with the video, kids should blog so they can express themselves. It is a place where they can go whenever they want and say whatever they want. They open the doors to the world and can make connections around the globe. It is a safe way for children to interact and express themselves, it invites exitment and gives children a voice!

What:
This week in class we worked on a group powerpoint project. Our group chose a topic, Geography and built a lesson on it using powerpoint. We also had to explain our work on powerpoint.

So What:
Powerpoint is important for me as a teacher because it is a fast easy way to teach a lesson using pictures and keeping the attention of the children. It is important to understand powerpoint so that I as a teacher can make it interesting. By writing down the steps in making a powerpoint I learn how to make the slides interesting while remembering how I did it. This way if I do something that I like and want to use again, I can just go back and look at my instructions and remember how I did it. It was also important to work with groups because we were able to combine ideas to come up with a creative lesson for the students. Our group came up with the idea of teaching geography and culture and comparing other countries to America. This way the children could relate what is common to what is new and make connections that will help them learn. Also our lesson plan was made fun using powerpoint activities, we used the idea of matching, this made our lesson a game and no one doesn't like a game! I hope that I can also use the creative lesson plans from the book to come up with creative lesson plans while using powerpoint!

Now what:
Now that I understand more of powerpoint and how to use it wiselt in a lesson I think I will use it often in the classroom so the children and me will both have the most rewarding learning experience. I will use my powerpoint instructions so that if I forget what I did later in life I can look back on how I came up with my powerpoint lesson and use it again to come up with another creative and fun way of teaching my students.

Video reflection:
I loved this video. The kid in the video has so much modivation and drive for life. At such a young age he is able to see the difference that he can make. I belive that everyone can make a difference, what that difference is depends on the person. It is important for not only children but people to know the affect children will have on our future, this kid shows that kids are smart and they are our future, so as adults we need to prepare the kids to the best of our ability to be the best they can be to be succesful and realise how important their succes is in life! As a teacher this is important because I have an important job in helping the children be aware of their influence and power they have in the future and helping them to have fun and enjoy becoming better human beings!

What: This week you were out sick so we just worked with our group to finish our PowerPoint presentation on Digital Cameras.

So What: It was nice having time to work with my group so together we could decide how we wanted it all to work out, it was a little faster than it would have been if we would have done it from our homes, although it is nice doing it on our own time. It was important for us to have this time together because before this class our presentation was way too long and it was very dry. It helped to have all of our opinions there at the same time so everyone in our group was happy with it!

Now what: Now I will find time with my group to work with them on our presentation, even if it is just to do the final cleaning. I like working on my own time, but I also think it is good to get together before it is turned in to make sure everything looks good and everyone is satisfied with it.

Video Reflection: I liked this video. The funniest comedy is the kind that is partly true just not to that extent. Some people use the wrong font, too many animations, too bright of colors, etc on their PowerPoint and I will admit that I am guilty of a few of them. Some of them I use without noticing but definitely not to his extent. I liked this video because I notice it in PowerPoint's and this could be of help!

Blog #6 (Digital Cameras)

What: This week in class we learned the importance of digital cameras. We learned how to take pictures in a classroom setting and how to use them for learning. We also started a PowerPoint presentation using our pictures to teach a curriculum lesson in our groups.

So what: It is important to know how to use pictures for learning. A lot of students are visual learners and if a teacher knows how to use pictures to teach a lesson this will benefit them greatly. Also the mash up is a great idea for teaching, it allows the teacher to take multiple sources and put them into one for the effect they want. Teachers can use pictures for a lecture, for learning, for fun, etc. There are so many beneficial things that come from a picture, and it is perfect for learning and teaching!

Now what: Now I will take more pictures, while taking pictures for my groups' presentation I realised how much educational information can be in one picture. There is a famous quote "A picture is worth a thousand words" and I agree completely. I feel that if I take one picture, I could use it for multiple educational subjects as long as there is a good connection. I learned how easy it is to get pictures from the camera to the computer. This is nice for teachers because it saves them time and gets the job done! A mash up is also a great way to find only the information wanted and mix it into one, it is easy, fast, and fun and I will use it to better my lessons. Also taking pictures is really easy, so I figure that I will use it a lot because it is fun, easy, efficient, and fast!

Video Reflection: I really liked the mash up. Although I am not sure how they were able to mix all of the videos together I thought it was very clever and it made something that was possibly boring interesting by adding different videos and making it into one. I feel that if I knew how to make a mash up of videos this would help a lot in the classroom, I would be able to take only the small portion of information I wanted and add another portion from a different source into one, making it my own and only getting the information needed for the point I wanted to make. I also liked the David Letterman video, I found it really funny. The kind of funny that is only funny because it is mostly true. I am sure teachers get sick of their last names, regret not listening to their students when they have to go to the bathroom, use wipes more than they ever have before, spend so much time preparing and teaching the children that there is no time to take care of oneself by going to the gym, and etc.

Blog #5 (Internet Safety)

What?
This week we learned all about Internet safety. We learned why it is important to be safe on the Internet, how we can be safe on the Internet, and how to know if a website contains truthful and educational information.

So what?
In today's society the Internet has become so common that it is important to know about the Internet and how to use it wisely. The Internet is so easily accessed that it is important for children to be safe while using it. By learning Internet safety it helps children stay away from dangerous situations and be able to acknowledge when something is unsafe or not accurate. This is important for teachers and students because it helps the children to receive truthful information from the Internet. By looking up many resources on the Internet the children can find more than one opinion and be more likely to find what is truthful and what he or she agrees with, this allows the student to not only see more than one perspective but will give them a better and broader understanding of the chosen topic.

Now what?
Now that I know more about the Internet I have found myself being more careful with websites and more aware of the author, date, and credibility of sources. This will help me to teach my students accurately and also it will help when i teach my students so that they can also find accurate information from the web. I didn't realise all the dangers of the Internet, but now that I understand them I will be careful when I use the Internet with students, making sure they know not to give out personal information, to always be nice, and to consult an adult if anything inappropriate, rude, or strange comes up while on the Internet. This assignment will help me to help my students, by keeping them safe from Internet dangers and help me by being more aware of what I am teaching and looking up. The Internet is huge in today's world, and i believe that it will only expand more, by learning and using the Internet correctly the future generation will be brighter. Students will learn how to find accurate information and be more aware of what they are reading, if children know Internet safety they will be safe and learn a lot more from what they are searching. I believe that by knowing Internet safety it can truly change the future!

Video Reflection:
The video contained important information about the Internet that all children should know. When I was thinking about Internet safety I thought about a lot of the same rules listed in the video but I also realised that I had left out a few major rules. I think that this video is kid appropriate and would be very useful to show in a classroom. The rules state that a child should 1. Never give out any personal information (name, address, phone number, password, email, age, and any other personal information). 2. If there is any discomfort while on the web tell an adult and exit out immediately. 3. If someone bullies you online don't reply and tell an adult. 4. Whatever is posted online will be there forever and is not private, therefore check before posting anything and make sure it is appropriate and safe. 5. Never agree to meet someone that you don't know. These rules are very important for children to learn, Internet is everywhere and if one does not know how to use it properly they can get themselves into a lot of danger!

Internet Safety

Doc Waters, for the internet safty reflection it asked for me to paste a copy in my blog, but for some reason it wouldn't allow me to copy and paste unless I did it as a page, so please check out my pages for my internet safety reflection!
Thanks,
Aubrey

What: This week we learned how to search using UEN and the Pioneer Online Library.

So What: This exercise will help me as a teacher find fast and efficient ways of searching and finding information needed for lesson planning, organizing, and even field trips. These websites are loaded with information. Almost everything I need I can find through searching these websites!

Now What: I hope that I will become a better searcher on this websites and be able to find fast ways to find the information I need. Once I get more comfortable with these sites I think that it will be a huge help in my teaching career.

Video Reflection: Creative is as important in education as literacy. I agree, children learn the best when the lesson is creative and fun. The basics are important but if they are interested in it the learning also becomes fun and more memorable. This guy was a very creative public speaker which helped his speech, his speech was more than informative, it was entertaining and fun to listen to. If I as a teacher am creative in my teachings then hopefully the students will be more engaged and they themselves will be more inclined to use their creativity. I personally find myself learning the most when I am teaching myself. It is said that when one goes to collage they find themselves, this is because at this time everything is our decision, whether we show up to class, take class, what we take, where we work, who are friends are etc. I feel as though the most important thing I have learned in life are ones not pertaining to math and science but in relationships and personal growth and knowledge. The teachers who teach and then some, are the ones that truly make a difference.

Blog #3

What: This week in class we started part one of UEN. We opened up an account and started figuring things out on the program.

So what: With UEN I will be able to work at home and in the classroom easier, this program was designed as a web page so we can edit it and then parents, student, and other teachers will be allowed to view my page. With the tabs I can add multiple subjects, it is a good way for me to stay organized and on top of things!

Now What: Now that I know about this program I hope to use it to close more communication barriers, this program is not only easy for me to use but it is easy to access and find information. In the classroom UEN will be nice to use for multiple reasons, it's quick and easy, keeps me organised, and allows easy access for others to be more involved in the students lives. I hope to keep up with my UEN account and have it be a helpful tool that students will find homework help on, parents will find information to help with their students on, and everyone will be involved.

Video Reflection: I loved this video. It showed that not only are teachers important but it is the students responsibility to make a difference in ones life. It may help to have a great teacher, but regardless it is ones own responsibly to make something of themselves and manifest their talents. Everyone has a talent, its a students responsibly to find out what it is. Education is extremely important, no matter what someone wants to become, they will do it better with an education, what one does with their education is what becomes of the future. Everyone can try, and there is no excuse to not try, in America we have the freedom to decide our own future and its not worth taking it for granted.

Blog #2

What: This week in class we went over word documents, making sure the class knew how to edit, create, and design the best document possible. We also got a new assignment to make a powerpoint with out group on our "class rules"!

So What: It was effective to have the class ask questions about google document and then have them answered. This way the whole class learned more about google document and we were able to clear things up at the beginning of class. Our powerpoint project was very similar to our google document project, I like working in groups, I got a great group and together we learn about powerpoint and are able to help eachother and ourselves. Sometimes things are less organised and harder to do in groups, but I think that the "Stupendous Second" group works really well together. It is good to work with a group because in the future when we are teachers we will have a whole faculty to work with, and this way makes it as easy and efficent as it is going to get.

Now What: I plan to use google more often. I like powerpoints, they are a fun way of learning and for kids they are great because you can add pictures and exciting backgrounds. Now that I know how easy powerpoint can be I might even challange future students to do them and learn how to work with a group and on a computer in a fun, fast, and efficent way.

Video Reflection: This video got me thinking about the future. It is hard to believe that ten years ago computers, phones, ipods, and x box's either didn't exist or were uncommon. Now new technology is everywhere and there is always something new and exciting on the loose. I can't imagine what the future is going to be like but like these kids have said I think that technology will continue to get smaller, more efficent, and there will be more "media mobility." I wouldn't be suprised if phones, televisions, computers, and ipods all connect into one small device. If this des happen it will be very efficent, but in a classroom a teacher doesn't need more distractions then it already has. If kids in the next generation grow up around so much new and advanced technology most of them will have access to it and know how to use it. This could be used nicely for studying and other activities, but the entertainment part is what kids seek for the most, so I can see it as being a huge distraction for the classroom and social interactions.

Do You Believe In Me?

In the video Do you belive in Me? I found the kid to be very inspiring. I love that at such a young age he desires to be succusful and is doing something about it. He hit it right on, what makes or breaks a teacher is "believing." When facing hard times I like to believe that things will soon get better, by doing this I tend to focus on the positive and push through the hard times. Beliving is a truly great gift in which many people today don't posses. This young man believes in himself and believes that people can make a difference. This attitude will not only get him far in life but also those he encounters.

My Ideal Classroom

My idel classroom... what a broad subject! I have so many fantasies and ideas I have for my future classroom I don't know where to begin! I have grown up in Salt Lake City Utah and have loved every minitue of it! It is the place of my childhood and the place that I found my imagination and dreams. That is why I would love to teach in the same surroundings!
As a child I loved playing outside, and I especially loved the seasons and the feelings that came with every season change! In my fourth grade class I hope to take my children outside often, to really explore nature and learn from it. I hope to have adventurous lievely children that are ready to explore! I expect them to have some troubled areas, and I definately don't expect them to all be the same. But that is what makes it exciting for me, every child will bring on a new challange that I as a teacher hope to work through and truly help each child not only excel but fall in love with learning.
I strongly believe in the importance of family. The family is what shapes a child, and it is very important for them to be a big part of their childs life. Children are precious miracles that need lots of love and nurtuting, and this comes from the family. I want to involve parents as much as I can into their childs life by filling them in on what is going on in the classroom and the personal progress of their child.
I hope to have a smaller class, this way I can have more time for each student and hopefully not have to focus too much on class management. I have noticed than in smaller groups I am more comfortable and more myself, I don't feel overwhelmed by people and I can just enjoy the ones im with.
Friendship at school is very important, the friends children have and make will affect the way they learn and the desire they have to come to school. By pushing the desks into small groups of four or five I hope to find the students communicating and learning from each other. I want them to become very comfortable with their groups and then switch up the desks, hopeing that they will keep the friendships they gained in their groups, and make new friends in their new group.
I know my classroom won't be perfect but this kinda excites me, it's like a puzzle, problem solving untill the problem is worked out while learning on the way. I loved my childhood and i hope that my children will not have the desire to grow up fast. Childhood is wonderful and I want them to know and enjoy it. Today too many kids want to grow up fast, getting too involved with the television and computer games, I want to take them away from this in hopes that they will find their imagination more enjoyable than anything else.
The classroom should be a fun enjoyable place where kids want to come. That is why I am gonig to make my classroom filled with fun colors; colored posters of numbers, inspiring quotes, pictures that liven the imagination, and more!
I can't wait to have my own classroom! It will be a wonderful learning experience for both me and the children!
